Inbox Brief #5: Quick UI Tips, Venezuelan Design, and Old Books

Hello!

It’s time for the latest issue of Inbox Brief, a design newsletter by Goodbrief.

Let’s dive in!

1) Details that make interfaces feel better

A nice, no-nonsense list of quick wins that will easily improve any user interface. Well explained and expertly presented, you’ll learn a lot of small details that can add that extra bit of polish to take your design from good to great.

2) Archivo Gráfico

A digital archive of Venezuelan graphic design. Lots of beautiful inspiration, you could get lost browsing this selection of books, logos, stamps, and more.

3) Old Book Illustrations

You can probably figure this one out from the name. The images on this site are often in the public domain (but make sure to check!) and can be a great source for assets and inspiration. They also have a Mastondon account that’s worth a follow.

4) Practice Design Brief

Use this design brief for practice! Feel free to share your work on your portfolio or social media accounts.

New Norse is a YouTube channel teaching Swedish to English-speaking beginners and intermediate learners. Their mission is to make language learning feel approachable and enjoyable rather than academic and intimidating. Their core values are accessibility, consistency, and cultural curiosity.

The objective of this design project is to develop a visual identity and channel branding system that feels modern and energetic without being loud or cluttered. The primary audience is English-speaking adults aged 18–35 who are learning Swedish out of personal interest, heritage, or travel plans.

Deliver a logo, color palette, and typography system. Create a YouTube icon, banner and thumbnail template for an extra challenge. For inspiration, look at the clean motion-graphic style of Kurzgesagt, language learning platforms like Babbel and Duolingo, and the design of Swedish brands like Fjällräven and Åhléns.

I want your feedback! Reply to this email and let me know what you want to see more of in future issues.

If you're enjoying it, I would really appreciate it if you would share it with a friend who you think would find it useful too.

Until next time,

Manu
