Inbox Brief #4: Logos, Sci-Fi Type, & a Design Brief!

Hello!

It’s time for the latest issue of Inbox Brief, a design newsletter by Goodbrief.

Let’s dive in!

1) Logobook

A collection of monochrome logos, symbols, and trademarks. It’s very easy to browse—the logos are organized by letter, shape, theme, and industry.

2) Software proprioception

A great article about how software design can be more helpful and delightful when it’s aware of its own hardware, by Marcin Wichary. Lots of examples and small lessons that can be applied beyond software design.

3) Typeset in the Future

A blog (and book!) analyzing the typography used in science fiction movies. I particularly enjoyed the one about WALL·E, it highlighted a lot of great little details that I had never noticed.

4) Practice Design Brief

Use this design brief for practice! Feel free to share your work on your portfolio or social media accounts.

Treehill Education is a textbook publishing company that produces curriculum materials for middle and high school students. Their mission is to make academic content accessible and engaging for all learners. Their core values are clarity, inclusivity, and academic integrity.

The objective of this design project is to develop a visual identity and series layout system that feels authoritative without being dry or intimidating. The primary audience is students aged 11–18, along with the teachers and school administrators who select and purchase curriculum materials.

Deliver a consistent visual system that can be used across many different textbooks, including covers and interior spreads. For inspiration, look at modern educational publishing, National Geographic layouts, and classic book cover design.

Thanks for reading this issue of Inbox Brief.

If you're enjoying it, I would really appreciate it if you would share it with a friend who you think would find it useful too.

Until next time,

Manu
